Septerna names Rajiv Patni as chief medical officer

Septerna, Inc. (Nasdaq: SEPN) has appointed Rajiv Patni, M.D., as chief medical officer, the clinical-stage biotechnology company announced.



Dr. Patni joins Septerna from Judo Bio, where he most recently served as chief executive officer. Before that, he was chief research and development officer at Reata Pharmaceuticals. He has also served as chief medical officer at Global Blood Therapeutics, Portola Pharmaceuticals, Adamas Pharmaceuticals, and Actelion Pharmaceuticals. Earlier in his career, he held development roles at Pfizer and Roche Pharmaceuticals.



Over his more than 25-year career, Dr. Patni has contributed to programs resulting in 10 regulatory approvals or label expansions across the United States, Europe, and other markets. He currently serves as a director of BioXcel Therapeutics.



Dr. Patni holds an M.D. from the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai and completed his internal medicine residency and cardiology fellowship at Albert Einstein College of Medicine.



Jeffrey Finer, M.D., Ph.D., chief executive officer and co-founder of Septerna, said Dr. Patni brings "deep clinical development experience across multiple therapeutic areas and a successful track record of guiding investigational medicines from early clinical studies through regulatory agency approvals."



Septerna is a South San Francisco-based company focused on G protein-coupled receptor drug discovery, with pipeline programs in endocrinology, immunology, inflammation, and metabolic diseases.
