Senvest Capital founder and CEO Victor Mashaal dies at 87
Senvest Capital Inc. (TSX: SEC) announced the death of founder, president and chief executive officer Victor Mashaal, who passed away at age 87 following a brief illness on December 27.
Mashaal founded the Montreal-based corporation in 1968 with an initial $10,000 investment to purchase Canadian rights to Sensormatic Electronics Corporation's anti-shoplifting products. He also led investments in the Canadian pay television industry through First Choice Communications, where he served as chief executive officer.
"My father founded the Corporation in 1968," said Richard Mashaal, director and vice-president of Senvest, in a statement. "He guided the Corporation through a series of transformations that ensured its continued success across evolving economies and business cycles."
Richard Mashaal and George Malikotsis, vice-president of finance, will jointly assume Victor Mashaal's duties as president and chief executive officer on an interim basis. Frank Daniel, current board member and secretary treasurer, will serve as interim chairman. Malikotsis will fill the board vacancy created by Victor Mashaal's passing.
Senvest's Montreal offices will remain closed through January 5, 2026, in recognition of Mashaal's death, according to the company statement.
