SeaStar Medical CMO to present at pediatric therapy conference

SeaStar Medical Holding Corporation (Nasdaq: ICU) announced that its Chief Medical Officer, Kevin Chung, M.D., will deliver a presentation at the 2026 Pediatric Paracorporeal and Extracorporeal Therapy Symposium (PPETS), hosted by Texas Children's Hospital in Houston, Texas, from October 6 to 8, 2026.

Dr. Chung is scheduled to speak during a session titled "The Future of Pediatric Extracorporeal Therapies Innovation, Emerging Technologies, and the Next Generation of Support" on October 6, 2026, from 8:30 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. CDT. His presentation will focus on lessons learned in medical device development, using the company's QUELIMMUNE therapy as a case example.

The same session will include a presentation by James Odum, M.D., of Children's Hospital of Alabama, addressing the use of SeaStar Medical's Selective Cytopheretic Device (SCD) therapy.

QUELIMMUNE, also known as SCD-PED, received FDA approval in February 2024 under a Humanitarian Device Exemption for children with acute kidney injury (AKI) and sepsis or a septic condition who weigh at least 10 kilograms and are receiving renal replacement therapy in an ICU setting.

According to the company, data from two clinical trials published in the journal Kidney Medicine showed a 77% survival rate among patients treated with QUELIMMUNE, compared to historical standard-of-care data. Registry data from the first 21 pediatric patients in the post-approval SAVE Registry showed a 76% survival rate at Day 28 and Day 60, and a 71% survival rate at Day 90, with no device-related adverse events reported.

The annual PPETS conference brings together pediatric nephrologists, intensivists, neonatologists, and extracorporeal therapy specialists to discuss innovations in pediatric continuous renal replacement therapy and related treatments.
