SeaStar Medical Holding Corporation (Nasdaq: ICU) announced that its Chief Medical Officer, Col. (Ret.) Kevin Chung, MD, has been named the 2026 recipient of the Combat Nephrology Award at the Update in Critical Care Nephrology meeting in Madrid, Spain, held October 14–15, 2026.
The Combat Nephrology Award recognizes clinicians, researchers, and military medical officers who have made contributions to renal support in trauma and combat casualty environments. Dr. Chung succeeds Professor Claudio Ronco, MD, of the International Renal Research Institute of Vicenza and Università di Padova, who received the 2025 award.
"During the over two decades of caring for critically ill combat casualties, I came to the sober realization that current standards of care are not enough," Dr. Chung said in a statement. "Supporting a failing organ is not the same as treating the destructive hyperinflammation behind it."
Dr. Chung also served as a keynote speaker at the conference, presenting on October 15, 2026. His presentation was titled AKI in Military Operations: From Battlefield Experience to Future Strategies.
