Rivian Automotive (NASDAQ: RIVN) announced that Chief Financial Officer Claire McDonough will step down from her role on October 30, 2026, to pursue a new opportunity and relocate to the East Coast to be closer to her family.
McDonough joined Rivian in January 2021 and will remain in her position for the next two months to assist with the transition. During that period, she will work with CEO RJ Scaringe and the executive leadership team on key strategic initiatives.
Derek Mulvey, currently Vice President of Finance, is expected to be appointed Interim Chief Financial Officer upon McDonough's departure. Mulvey joined Rivian in 2021 and has been involved in the company's financial planning, strategic partnerships, capital allocation, and investor relations. Before joining Rivian, he served as Vice President at J.P. Morgan.
Rivian said it has begun a search for a permanent CFO, evaluating both internal and external candidates.
McDonough's tenure included overseeing Rivian's $13.7 billion initial public offering in November 2021 at its Normal, Illinois manufacturing facility. She also led cost-reduction efforts and helped structure strategic partnerships during her time at the company.
Scaringe commented on the transition: "From guiding us through our IPO to building many of our financial operating frameworks, her strategic approach has helped strengthen our overall execution."
