Playboy Inc. (NASDAQ: PLBY) appointed David Miller as President, Media & Brand, according to a company statement. Miller will oversee global licensing, digital operations and platform growth as part of his new role.
Miller joins from The Walt Disney Company, where he served as Executive Vice President and General Manager of National Geographic Media. During his tenure there, National Geographic achieved more than 800 million followers across social media platforms, including over 275 million on Instagram. He led the launch of National Geographic's digital subscription business and oversaw global editorial, digital, print and social operations.
Before Disney, Miller held senior positions at AOL following its acquisition of Lightningcast, where he worked on online video monetization and ad serving for platforms including Hulu and NCAA March Madness live streams. He holds a bachelor's degree from Georgetown University and an MBA from The George Washington University School of Business.
In his new position, Miller will manage Playboy's media business and licensing operations globally. Ben Kohn, CEO and President of Playboy, stated the appointment allows him to focus on strategic initiatives including a planned Miami Beach membership club, original programming and global licensing expansion.
"Playboy sits at a powerful intersection of brand equity, digital audience reach, and a global licensing platform," Miller said in the statement. He indicated his focus will be on building audience reach, engagement and monetization while strengthening the licensing ecosystem.
The appointment reflects Playboy's strategy to expand its media and licensing operations as the company pursues what it describes as an asset-light business model across licensing, digital content, consumer products and experiential offerings.
