Pacific Biosciences of California, Inc. (NASDAQ: PACB) announced that its Board of Directors has appointed Mark Van Oene as President and Chief Executive Officer, effective Aug. 5, 2026.
Van Oene, who previously served as the company's Chief Operating Officer since joining PacBio in 2021, succeeds Christian Henry, who stepped down after six years in the role. Van Oene has also been appointed to PacBio's Board of Directors.
Henry will remain on the Board of Directors and has agreed to serve as a business advisor to the company through at least the end of 2026 to support the transition.
John Milligan, Ph.D., Chair of PacBio's Board of Directors, said the board "unanimously concluded that Mark is the right leader to build on PacBio's strong foundation and drive long-term value creation for our customers, employees, and stockholders."
Van Oene said he intends to focus on expanding PacBio's presence in clinical markets and developing AI-related sequencing products and databases. "We remain focused on delivering innovative sequencing solutions that enable our customers to answer some of biology's most important questions," Van Oene said in a statement.
