New Relic Inc. (NYSE: NEWR) appointed Michael Frendo as chief technology officer, the observability platform company announced. Frendo will be responsible for connecting product vision with technical execution for the company's more than 85,000 global customers.
Frendo brings over 25 years of experience in technical and business leadership roles across software and hardware development. His background includes work with SaaS, cloud and embedded systems technologies. Previously, he served as CTO of Engineering at Proofpoint, a security and compliance platform company, starting in 2023.
Before Proofpoint, Frendo held positions at multinational technology companies including Cisco, Polycom and Juniper. During his career, he contributed to developing the world's first DOCSIS cable modem, Cisco's initial VoIP products, and a mobile firewall for Juniper that achieved 42% market share.
"Michael is a seasoned technology visionary who has spent his career at the forefront of every major technological shift, from the early days of VoIP to the AI era of today," said New Relic Chief Executive Officer Ashan Willy. "As we pioneer the next phase of intelligent observability, his track record as a disruptor makes him the ideal leader to bridge our product vision with world-class technical execution."
In his new role, Frendo will report to Willy and collaborate with Chief Product Officer Brian Emerson on developing New Relic's Intelligent Observability Platform. This includes managing the global deployment of new platform capabilities announced at New Relic Advance, designed to help customers scale AI initiatives.
"New Relic is the architect of modern observability, but what drew me here is the company's bold vision for the AI era," Frendo said.
