According to reports Friday, co-head of Asset Management at Goldman Sachs (NYSE: GS), Edward Forst, is leaving the firm.
Taking his spot will be Eric Lane, who will run the branch with Tim O'Neill.
This is one of the more high-profile execs to depart Goldman -- or Wall Street, for that matter.
Forst joined Goldman in 1994, taking on a variety of management and executive roles, then left in 2008 to run Harvard University's endowment, a big task considering its $32 billion value. Forst returned to Goldman in 2009 after the institution wanted to hire him back to replace Marc Spiker as Senior Strategy Officer.
According to the Goldman memo: "Ed is a trustee of Carnegie Hall and is the treasurer and a member of the board’s Executive Committee. He is co-chair of Harvard University’s Taskforce on Balanced Philanthropy, co-chair of Harvard’s 30th Reunion campaign, and a member of the University’s Stem Cell Science Advisory Board."
Forst will be 51 this month, about 18 percent younger than what's required to start getting full Social Security benefits, and a reminder for us all to stay in school.
