MacroGenics Inc. (NASDAQ: MGNX) appointed Eric Risser as president and chief executive officer, effective August 13, 2025, the clinical-stage biopharmaceutical company announced.
Risser, who has served as chief operating officer at MacroGenics since 2022, succeeds Scott Koenig, who is stepping down after 24 years as president and CEO. Koenig will remain as a director and advisor to the company.
The Rockville, Maryland-based company develops antibody-based therapeutics for cancer treatment. Under Koenig's leadership, MacroGenics developed three FDA-approved products.
Risser joined MacroGenics in 2009 to lead business development efforts and has led the company's corporate development activities, which have generated over $1.6 billion in non-dilutive capital since the company's inception. He previously worked at Johnson & Johnson as senior director in corporate development, where he led licensing and acquisition transactions.
"Eric is a highly strategic leader who brings almost 30 years of biotech and pharmaceutical industry experience, with a track record of value creation, effective portfolio management and creative deal-making," said Bill Heiden, MacroGenics' chair.
Risser holds an MBA from Stanford University and a bachelor's degree from Yale University. Before joining MacroGenics, he worked in investment banking, venture capital, and strategy consulting within the life sciences sector.
The company stated that Risser has been appointed to the board of directors alongside his executive role.
