Kymera Therapeutics names new chief medical officer

Kymera Therapeutics (NASDAQ: KYMR) announced the appointment of Terence Rooney, MD, as chief medical officer, effective July 27, 2026.

Dr. Rooney joins from Johnson & Johnson, where he served as Senior Vice President, Portfolio and Asset Management Leader, Immunology, overseeing global compound development teams and portfolio strategy across immunology. He previously held senior roles in immunology research and development at Eli Lilly and Roche.

In his new role, Dr. Rooney will lead Kymera's global clinical development strategy across its oral immunology portfolio targeting immuno-inflammatory diseases.

Dr. Rooney's career has spanned small molecules, biologics, and cell therapies across therapeutic areas including dermatology, rheumatology, gastroenterology, and rare diseases. He has contributed to marketing applications for medicines including OLUMIANT, STELARA, and TREMFYA, among others.

He holds medical degrees from the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland, completed internal medicine training at the Dublin Academic Teaching Hospitals, and completed rheumatology fellowships in Ireland and at the University of California, San Francisco. He also holds a doctorate from the National University of Ireland and has authored approximately 50 peer-reviewed publications.

Dr. Rooney succeeds Jared Gollob, MD, who is retiring after eight years with the company. Dr. Gollob will remain as an advisor through the end of 2026.
