Group 1 Automotive names Melkeya McDuffie as HR chief

Group 1 Automotive, Inc. (NYSE: GPI) appointed Melkeya McDuffie as Senior Vice President and Chief Human Resources Officer, effective August 11. The Houston-based automotive retailer operates 259 dealerships in the United States and United Kingdom.



McDuffie brings over 20 years of executive human resources experience across multiple industries. Since 2023, she served as Chief People Officer for Bright Horizons, a global early education and workforce solutions company with 30,000 employees across five countries. Previously, she held the role of Executive Vice President and Chief Human Resources Officer at Clean Harbors, described as North America's largest environmental and hazardous waste disposal company with 20,000 employees.



Her career includes senior HR positions at The Wallace Foundation, Waste Management, Wells Fargo Mortgage, HSBC Finance Corporation, and Quest Diagnostics. She advanced from Regional Human Resources Business Partner to Vice President of Human Resources during her tenure at Waste Management.

McDuffie holds a B.A. in Business and M.B.A. from York St. John University in England. She completed executive programs at Harvard Business School, University of Chicago Booth School of Business, and Cornell University's School of Industrial and Labor Relations. She serves on the advisory board of Dress for Success Houston and as a Director of Trex Company.



Group 1 Automotive operates 324 franchises and 39 collision centers, offering 36 automobile brands through its dealerships and omni-channel platform. The company provides vehicle sales, financing, service contracts, maintenance, repair services, and parts.
