Eugene Gorfin named chief operating officer at Cantor Fitzgerald

Cantor Fitzgerald, L.P. has appointed Eugene Gorfin as Chief Operating Officer, according to a company statement.

In the role, Gorfin will oversee Operations, Human Resources, Marketing and Communications, Compliance, and Administrative functions. He will report to Brandon Lutnick, Chairman of Cantor Fitzgerald, and join the firm's Executive Committee.

Gorfin joins from Barclays, where he most recently served as Managing Director, Americas Deputy Chief Operating Officer, and CEO of the U.S. Services Entity. He has more than 30 years of experience and previously held senior positions at UBS and KPMG Consulting.

"Eugene has deep experience leading complex organizations through growth and change," Lutnick said. "His leadership and track record of execution make him an excellent addition to our Executive Committee."

Gorfin will assume oversight of Compliance from Stephen Merkel, who will continue as Executive Vice Chairman, Executive Managing Director, and General Counsel, as well as board chair of Newmark Group Inc. (Nasdaq: NMRK) and BGC Group Inc. (Nasdaq: BGC).

Gorfin will also take over Operations, Human Resources, Marketing and Communications, and Administrative functions from Mike Whitaker, who will remain Group Chief Information Officer.
