CarMax names new digital chief, promotes strategy head

CarMax, Inc. (NYSE: KMX) announced two leadership appointments, including a newly created executive role, according to a company press release.

Elizabeth Dirgins has been named Executive Vice President and Chief Digital and Customer Officer, a new position that will oversee marketing, product, and Edmunds teams, covering both online and in-store customer experience. Dirgins joins CarMax from Volkswagen Financial Services, where she served as Chief Digital Officer for the North American region. She previously held roles at Capital One, Wells Fargo, and Marriott. She joined CarMax on October 5 and reports to President and CEO Keith Barr.

Jeff Campbell has been promoted to Senior Vice President of Strategy, leading a newly centralized function that combines the company's strategy, data science, AI, and pricing teams. Campbell joined CarMax in 2016 from Boston Consulting Group and most recently served as Vice President of Product. His promotion was effective in August, and he will report directly to Barr beginning in January 2027.

"Elizabeth and Jeff both bring the skills, experience and focus we need as we build a faster, more connected company that puts the customer at the center of everything we do," said Barr.

CarMax said it plans to host a virtual strategic update on November 3 at 8 a.m. ET to outline its growth strategy and key initiatives. The company operates more than 255 store locations and employs approximately 28,000 associates.
