Caleres Inc. (NYSE: CAL) appointed Dan Karpel as interim chief financial officer, effective immediately, the footwear company announced. Karpel, who serves as senior vice president and chief accounting officer, replaces Jack Calandra, who is leaving at the end of the month to pursue other opportunities.
The company stated Calandra's departure is not related to any disagreement with Caleres. An external search for a permanent CFO successor has begun.
Karpel rejoined Caleres as chief accounting officer in October 2025 after serving as CFO of Club Car Wash Operating, LLC. His experience includes CFO roles at CW Holdings, LLC and chief accounting officer positions at Eyecare Partners LLC and Spectrum Brands Holdings, Inc.
"Dan recently returned to Caleres, and he knows our company well," said Jay Schmidt, president and CEO. "We are confident that his deep familiarity with our company coupled with his financial expertise will ensure a smooth transition."
Caleres also provided a fourth quarter update, noting potential impacts from the Saks Global bankruptcy that could affect sales and pose up to $0.06 risk to fourth quarter earnings per diluted share guidance. The company may also incur previously unanticipated restructuring charges.
Excluding these potential impacts, the company stated its sales and earnings per diluted share outlook for the fourth quarter and fiscal 2025 remain consistent with guidance provided December 9, 2025.
Caleres operates footwear brands including Famous Footwear, Sam Edelman, Stuart Weitzman, Allen Edmonds, Naturalizer and Vionic through nearly 1,000 retail stores and various e-commerce channels.
