BetterLife Pharma names neurologist as chief medical officer

BetterLife Pharma Inc. (CSE: BETR, OTCQB: BETRF, FSE: NPAU) has appointed Mahan Chehrenama, DO, as Chief Medical Officer, according to a company statement. Dr. Chehrenama will lead clinical development for BETR-001, the company's non-hallucinogenic neuroplastogen candidate targeting migraine and other headache disorders.

The Vancouver-based biotechnology company is working toward an Investigational New Drug (IND) application for BETR-001, anticipated in the first quarter of 2027.

Dr. Chehrenama is a board-certified neurologist and headache sub-specialist with more than two decades of clinical practice. She most recently served as Chief Medical Officer at Manistee Therapeutics, where she led an IND submission and oversaw Phase 1 and Phase 2 trials. Prior roles include global development lead at Amgen, where she worked on the CGRP-inhibitor Aimovig (erenumab), and a leadership position at Revance Therapeutics on a Phase 3 program supporting a Biologics License Application for Cervical Dystonia.

She has served as principal investigator on more than 90 clinical trials and has practiced clinical neurology since 1998. She is a Fellow of the American Headache Society and holds subspecialty certification in headache medicine from the United Council for Neurologic Subspecialties.

"She has taken migraine programs through the FDA, led an IND submission, and worked on some of the field's leading therapies," said Ahmad Doroudian, Chief Executive Officer of BetterLife.

In connection with the appointment, BetterLife has agreed to grant Dr. Chehrenama stock options to purchase 500,000 common shares at an exercise price of $0.285, with quarterly vesting over 24 months and a 10-year term.
