Anavex Life Sciences names Wolfgang Liedtke neurology head

Anavex Life Sciences Corp. (NASDAQ: AVXL) appointed Wolfgang Liedtke as Senior Vice President, Global Head of Neurology, the clinical-stage biopharmaceutical company announced.
Liedtke brings over 25 years of experience in central nervous system drug development. He most recently served as Chair of Neurology at Regeneron, where he oversaw the integration of discovery into 45 clinical trials, including 14 Phase 3 studies. At Regeneron, he led completion of a CNS clinical trial with more than 11,000 patients and contributed to late-stage trials of dupilumab.
Prior to Regeneron, Liedtke spent 17 years as a tenured full professor at Duke University, where he established the Duke Pain Research Group and founded two pain-focused clinics at Duke University Medical Center. He provided clinical care for more than 5,000 patients and was elected to the Medical Advisory Board of the U.S. Facial Pain Association as lead neurologist.
Earlier in his career, Liedtke served as assistant professor at The Rockefeller University, where he discovered the TRPV4 ion channel. He has authored more than 160 peer-reviewed publications and holds numerous U.S. patents.

Anavex develops treatments for neurodegenerative, neurodevelopmental, and neuropsychiatric disorders. The company's lead drug candidate, ANAVEX2-73, has completed Phase 2a and Phase 2b/3 clinical trials for Alzheimer's disease and Phase 2 studies for Parkinson's disease dementia and Rett syndrome.
