Altimmune Inc. (NASDAQ: ALT) announced that Vipin Garg will step down as president and chief executive officer effective January 1, 2026. Jerry Durso, the company's chairman of the board, will assume the CEO role while retaining his chairman position.
Garg will serve as an advisor to the biopharmaceutical company through June 30, 2026, to facilitate the transition. He has led Altimmune since 2018, during which time the company's lead drug candidate pemvidutide advanced from preclinical development to Phase 3 readiness for metabolic dysfunction-associated steatohepatitis treatment.
Durso brings over 30 years of life sciences industry experience. He most recently served as CEO of Intercept Pharmaceuticals, a liver disease-focused company that was acquired by Alfasigma. Prior to that, he spent more than two decades at Sanofi in senior leadership roles, including chief commercial officer positions for the company's global diabetes division and U.S. pharmaceuticals business.
Durso joined Altimmune's board in February 2025 and became chairman in August 2025. The Gaithersburg, Maryland-based company develops peptide-based therapeutics for liver and metabolic diseases.
Altimmune expects to report 48-week data from its IMPACT Phase 2b trial before year end and has scheduled an end-of-Phase 2 meeting with the Food and Drug Administration later this quarter to discuss its proposed Phase 3 trial design for pemvidutide in MASH treatment.
The information is based on a company press release.
