Alphatec Holdings names Tommy Carls as EVP of data intelligence

Alphatec Holdings, Inc. (Nasdaq: ATEC) has appointed Thomas "Tommy" Carls as Executive Vice President, Data Intelligence and Strategy, the company announced in a press release.

Carls will report directly to Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Pat Miles and will join ATEC's Senior Leadership Team. The role is newly created and will focus on development and marketing efforts across the company's EOSedge, EOS Insight, data acquisition and analytics, and its broader InformatiX platform.

Carls brings more than 30 years of experience in spine and medical technology. He previously served as Vice President of Product and Clinical at Proprio Vision, where he worked on an artificial intelligence-enabled surgical navigation platform. Before that, he spent more than two decades at Sofamor Danek and Medtronic in roles spanning engineering, product development, marketing, and global research and development. He holds more than 80 patents.

Carls holds a Bachelor of Science in mechanical engineering from Tulane University and a Master of Business Administration from the University of Memphis.

"He has spent his career translating complex clinical needs into technologies that meaningfully advance spine surgery," Miles said of Carls.

ATEC's procedural ecosystem includes EOS imaging, surgical planning, Valence navigation and robotics, and SafeOp neuromonitoring. The company states it intends to use the InformatiX platform to apply data and predictive analytics to decisions made before, during, and after surgery.
