Amgen (NASDAQ: AMGN) announced the retirement of David M. Reese, executive vice president and chief technology officer, effective June 30, 2026. The biotechnology company also revealed organizational changes designed to integrate biology and technology operations.

Reese joined Amgen in 2005 as a clinical development leader in oncology and served as executive vice president of Research and Development from 2018 to 2023. As the company's first chief technology officer, he promoted the adoption of technology and artificial intelligence across business operations, particularly in research and development.

"Dave recognized early the impact that advances in biology and technology would have on our industry and helped lead Amgen through that shift," said Robert A. Bradway, chairman and chief executive officer.

The company announced several leadership appointments effective June 1, 2026. James Bradner will serve as executive vice president, Research and Development, Artificial Intelligence and Data. Sean Bruich will become senior vice president and chief technology officer. Murdo Gordon will lead Amgen Global Markets and Policy, which includes Medical, Commercial Operations, Government Affairs and Policy. Paul Burton will continue as senior vice president and chief medical officer.

These changes support what Amgen calls "convergent innovation," which combines biology, data science and technologies such as artificial intelligence to accelerate drug discovery and development. The reorganization aims to better connect these technological capabilities with the company's operations and patient engagement strategies.

Amgen, based in Thousand Oaks, California, discovers and develops medicines for cancer, inflammatory conditions, rare diseases, heart disease and obesity-related conditions. The company is included in both the Dow Jones Industrial Average and the Nasdaq-100 Index.
