American Electric Power (NASDAQ: AEP) appointed Adrian Rodriguez as president and chief operating officer of AEP Texas, effective March 30. Rodriguez will report to Bill Fehrman, AEP's chairman, president and chief executive officer.
Rodriguez currently serves as president of Southwestern Public Service Company, an Xcel Energy subsidiary serving customers in New Mexico and Texas. In that role, he directed regulatory initiatives, secured what the company described as its largest capital project, and led wildfire recovery efforts.
Rodriguez succeeds Judith Talavera, who left the organization. Alex Ramirez, vice president of Distribution Operations at AEP Texas, will serve as interim president and chief operating officer until Rodriguez joins the company.
Before joining Southwestern Public Service Company in 2022, Rodriguez held the position of senior vice president of Regulatory & Strategy at Puget Sound Energy. He previously worked at El Paso Electric Company in various roles, including senior vice president, general counsel, and interim chief executive officer and board director. Rodriguez has also worked in private law practice, the federal court system, public policy, and the Texas legislature.
Rodriguez holds a bachelor's degree in economics and government from the University of Texas, a master's degree in public policy from Harvard University's Kennedy School of Government, and a Juris Doctor from Columbia University.
AEP operates approximately 40,000 miles of transmission lines and more than 252,000 miles of distribution lines, serving 5.6 million customers across 11 states. The company expects to invest $72 billion from 2026 through 2030, according to the press release.
