Walmart adds Apple Pay as retailer expands contactless payments

August 21, 2026 1:22 PM EDT

Investing.com - Walmart Inc. (NYSE: WMT) said Friday it will roll out contactless payment options, including Apple Pay, across all U.S. stores by the end of 2026. The world's largest retailer will begin adding Tap to Pay at select Walmart stores and Sam's Club locations on Aug. 24.

The payment options will be accepted on Walmart's websites and apps. Customers will be able to check out using eligible contactless cards, phones, or smartwatches. Walmart fuel stations will receive the technology by mid-2027.

Customers and members can add their eligible Walmart, Sam's Club and OnePay cards to digital wallets. The new payment method joins existing options including cash, credit card and Walmart Pay, which allows customers to use the Walmart app to pay, view purchases and receipts, and access Walmart+ fuel savings.

Sam's Club members can also use Scan & Go to scan and pay as they shop, skipping the traditional checkout line. Members have access to Sam's Cash and Sam's Club credit, with opportunities to earn Sam's Cash through qualifying purchases and programs.

Walmart's financial services help customers manage their money and everyday financial needs, including options to save, build credit and pay over time. The company said the contactless payment rollout is part of a broader effort to make managing and using money easier for customers and members.
