Uber exits Serve Robotics stake amid deployment disputes

Investing.com -- Uber Technologies Inc. sold its entire stake in Serve Robotics Inc. during the second quarter, ending a partnership that began when the delivery robot company was spun out of Postmates in 2020.

The exit follows disagreements between the two companies over delivery robot deployment strategies. Uber disclosed the sale in a regulatory filing on Friday.

Serve Robotics operates four-wheeled sidewalk delivery robots in Los Angeles, Miami and Chicago. Uber acquired Postmates in 2020 and had maintained an investment in Serve since its spinout from that delivery app.

Uber began reducing its Serve holdings in early 2025 as it redirected capital toward other investments, including robotaxis. An Uber executive also resigned from Serve's board during the second quarter. Serve stated at the time that the resignation was not due to any disagreements with the company.

The divestment highlights obstacles in Uber's strategy to build a platform that aggregates autonomous vehicles and robots for its ride-hailing and delivery services. Partnerships in this space involve complex negotiations over customer relationships and user experience responsibility.

Last month, Uber announced its exclusive partnership with robotaxi operator Waymo will end in early 2028. Alphabet Inc.-owned Waymo plans to expand its service to additional markets through its own ride-hailing application.
