U.S. welcomes EU tariff removal plan, flags remaining concerns
Investing.com - The U.S. Trade Representative's office on Wednesday welcomed the European Union's provisional agreement on legislation to remove import duties on American goods, while noting that Brussels must still address non-tariff barriers and regulatory matters outlined in last year's trade deal.
The USTR stated it would continue reviewing certain limiting amendments in the EU legislation to determine whether they comply with the Joint Statement between the two trading partners.
The legislation agreed upon Wednesday aims to fulfill a central component of the trade deal reached between Washington and Brussels in July. The agreement was designed to prevent higher U.S. tariffs on key EU products that President Donald Trump threatened earlier this month.
The USTR said the agreement stands to deliver historic market access for American exporters, though it emphasized the need for the EU to address additional trade barriers beyond tariffs that were identified in the Joint Statement.
