September 16, 2025 9:27 AM EDT

Investing.com -- U.S. President Donald Trump announced Tuesday that he has signed documents appointing Stephen Miran to the Federal Reserve Board following Senate confirmation of his nomination.

Trump made the announcement to reporters as he was leaving the White House for a trip to Britain. The president, who has been openly critical of Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell in the past, also stated that the Fed needs to maintain its independence.

Miran, an economic aide to the president, will now join the Federal Reserve Board of Governors after successfully completing the Senate confirmation process.
