Trump announces three-day ceasefire in Russia-Ukraine war
Investing.com -- President Donald Trump announced Friday a three-day ceasefire in the Russia-Ukraine war, set to take place from May 9 through May 11.
The ceasefire will include a suspension of all kinetic activity and a prisoner exchange of 1,000 prisoners from each country, Trump said in a post on Truth Social.
Trump said the dates coincide with Victory Day celebrations in Russia, noting that Ukraine was also part of World War II.
The president said he made the request directly to both President Vladimir Putin and President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, who agreed to the temporary halt in fighting.
"Hopefully, it is the beginning of the end of a very long, deadly, and hard fought War," Trump wrote.
Trump added that talks continue on ending what he described as the biggest conflict since World War II, stating the sides are getting closer to a resolution.
