Investing.com -- The Trump administration unveiled a plan Monday to restrict the appeal rights of fired federal employees, proposing to eliminate their ability to dispute dismissals before an independent board.
Under the proposal released by the Office of Personnel Management (OPM), federal workers who lose their jobs would no longer be able to appeal to the Merit Systems Protection Board. Instead, they would need to direct their appeals to the OPM itself, which is led by a director who reports directly to President Donald Trump.
The change would represent a significant shift in how federal employment disputes are handled, moving appeals from an independent body to an executive branch agency under presidential control.
This proposal aligns with Trump's broader efforts to reduce the size of the federal government. The president has positioned mass layoffs of government employees as a key initiative of his second term.
