Trump administration plans ICE surge in New York City
Investing.com -- The Trump administration has prepared a plan to increase US Immigration and Customs Enforcement personnel in New York City, border czar Tom Homan said Monday.
Homan stated he warned New York Governor Kathy Hochul about the planned surge before she signed legislation last month that limits ICE operations and prohibits masked agents in the state.
"You're going to see more ICE than you've ever seen in New York City, and it's coming," Homan said on Fox. "I just reviewed an operational plan. I'm not going to tell you exactly when it's going to happen, but it's coming."
President Donald Trump and Homan have previously threatened to increase immigration agents in New York City but have not yet taken action similar to deployments in other Democrat-run cities and states.
Homan said he told Hochul privately that he would send more ICE agents to the city if she prevented them from arresting people already in police custody. He said arresting people already detained in jails is easier for immigration agents than conducting operations in the broader community.
