Treasury Department’s No. 2 official Michael Faulkender departs, WSJ reports
Investing.com -- Treasury Department Deputy Secretary Michael Faulkender is leaving his position less than five months after Senate confirmation, according to a Friday report by the Wall Street Journal.
Faulkender, who managed the department’s daily operations, also served as acting commissioner of the Internal Revenue Service during a period of leadership changes at the tax agency.
His departure marks the second exit of a Senate-confirmed Treasury official this month, following IRS Commissioner Billy Long’s recent departure.
Before his current role, Faulkender was a finance professor at the University of Maryland and previously worked at the Treasury Department during the first Trump administration, where he helped coordinate economic responses to the pandemic.
