Threads reaches 500 million monthly users, adds new features
Investing.com -- Meta's Threads platform announced on Tuesday that it has reached 500 million monthly active users and introduced several new features to mark the milestone.
The company said the growth reflects demand for a public conversation space. Communities, which allow users to gather around specific topics ranging from books to basketball, have driven much of the platform's expansion since launching last year.
Threads is moving its communities feature out of beta testing and adding new tools. The updates include a Communities Hub in the main menu for easier navigation between different groups, custom icons for visual identification, and progress indicators showing when a topic is close to becoming an official community.
The platform is expanding its community champions program to recognize more active members. Threads is also introducing local communities with native-language tags in Japan, Korea, and Taiwan. Live Chats will expand to more communities in the coming weeks, with co-hosting capabilities and the ability to share moments to user feeds.
Meta is launching Your Algo, a new feature that allows users to privately control their feed content. Users can request to see more or less of specific topics for periods of one, three, or seven days. The feature complements Dear Algo, which the company introduced in February to let users provide feedback to the algorithm.
Your Algo is available starting Monday in the United States, Canada, United Kingdom, Australia, and New Zealand. Users can manage both Dear Algo and Your Algo from a single location.
The company said it will continue updating Threads based on user feedback.
