This is Wolfe's most preferred S&P 500 sector for 2026
Investing.com -- Wolfe Research highlighted its top S&P 500 sector pick for 2026 in a note on Tuesday, extending a multi-year preference for the group.
Technology is the sector in question. The firm said the sector has outperformed the broader market “by 7 percentage points” this year and has beaten the S&P 500 “for the past 11 of 12 years.”
Analyst Chris Senyek wrote that, even after another strong year, “the Technology sector remains our favorite sector in 2026 once again,” alongside Communication Services, financials and consumer discretionary.
Wolfe Research argued that it is “too contrarian to underweight Tech in 2026,” citing solid fundamentals, strong fund flows into large-cap and market-weight indices, and limited growth elsewhere in the economy.
The analyst pointed to both secular and cyclical forces that continue to support performance.
Senyek said “secular growth remains relatively scarce with only ~20% of S&P 500 companies expected to grow 2026 revenues 10%+,” and more than 80 percent of those firms sit within Technology and Communication Services.
Wolfe Research believes these tailwinds should keep the sector well-positioned into next year.
The firm also maintained that Communication Services will benefit from many of the same structural drivers, noting that Tech and its adjacent sector share similar revenue frameworks.
