Switzerland to continue US trade talks amid tariff threat
Investing.com -- Switzerland said on Friday it will continue trade negotiations with the United States while disputing claims that it has not adequately addressed imports of goods produced with forced labor.
The Swiss government announced it will submit a written response to defend its supply chain-focused approach, which it maintains is effective. The statement comes as Washington considers imposing additional tariffs of 12.5% on Swiss goods.
The new tariffs are expected to replace the current 10% additional tariffs that remain in effect until July 24, according to the government. Further tariffs may also be applied based on a U.S. investigation into overcapacity issues.
Switzerland stated it pursues a comprehensive approach that combines government regulation, mandatory risk assessments initiated by the private sector, and international cooperation.
The government said Switzerland's approach does not harm U.S. industry. Additional tariffs are expected to be imposed as a result of Section 301 investigations into overcapacity.
