Switzerland still seeking binding deal with U.S. on tariff reduction
Investing.com -- Switzerland plans to continue negotiations with the United States to secure a legally binding agreement that would finalize a preliminary deal from late 2025, which reduced U.S. tariffs on Switzerland to 15% from 39%, the government said Monday.
The Swiss Economy Ministry said it remains committed to its mandate to complete a deal with Washington. The ministry noted that key stakeholders, including Switzerland's cantons, have not requested a halt to negotiations following the U.S. Supreme Court's decision to strike down President Donald Trump's tariffs.
The ministry stated that the main objective of the ongoing negotiations has been to achieve a legally binding agreement that would provide Swiss companies with the greatest possible legal certainty. The government said it is maintaining this goal.
