Saab wins $4.83 billion submarine order from Poland
Investing.com -- Saab signed a contract with the Polish State Treasury Armaments Agency on Monday for the production and delivery of three A26-type submarines. The order value totals approximately SEK 47 billion ($4.83 billion) and includes weapons and training support packages.
The Swedish defense company will deliver the submarines progressively, with final deliveries scheduled for 2038.
The A26 submarine is built to operate in the Baltic Sea's challenging conditions and is designed to function silently while remaining undetected. The submarines will provide naval operations capabilities through stealth and intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance functions.
"We are deeply honoured that Poland has chosen Saab's submarines to bolster its defence capabilities and strengthen the strategic partnership between our two nations. The three A26 submarines meet Poland's current and future defence requirements and will play a pivotal role in enhancing security in the Baltic Sea region," said Micael Johansson, President and CEO of Saab.
Saab will establish maintenance, repair, and overhaul capabilities in Poland through collaboration with Polish industry to support the contract and the Polish Navy's submarine operations.
Poland will operate the Swedish submarine HMS Södermanland as a gap filler under a separate agreement between Poland and Sweden.
