Russia warns of response to Finland nuclear weapons plan
Investing.com -- Russia said Monday it will take political and military-technical measures in response to NATO member Finland's plans to end a long-standing ban on hosting nuclear weapons on its territory.
Finland, which shares a 1,340-kilometer border with Russia, announced in March it would amend a Cold War-era nuclear act. The change aligns Finland with Nordic neighbors and could allow the deployment of atomic bombs on Finnish soil during wartime.
Moscow warned the decision will make Helsinki more vulnerable. Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said Monday the move posed "real threats" to Russia's national security. She added that Moscow would move quickly and effectively to readjust its military and political stance accordingly.
