Russia says U.S.-South Korea drills are open preparation for war

Investing.com -- Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova stated on Wednesday that joint military exercises between the United States and South Korea constitute open preparation for war.

The annual large-scale drills were launched by Washington and Seoul in South Korea in mid-March. The two nations described the exercises as defensive measures intended to test military readiness against potential threats from North Korea.

Zakharova challenged the official characterization of the maneuvers. She said that based on the activities conducted during the drills and the equipment deployed, the exercises represent more than defensive training.
