Rubio: US will continue attacks on drug boats in Caribbean
Investing.com -- United States Secretary of State Marco Rubio stated on Wednesday that attacks on boats carrying drugs, like the one that occurred Tuesday in the Caribbean, will happen again.
During his remarks, Rubio emphasized that traditional interdiction methods for drug boats have proven ineffective. "Interdiction of drug boats does not work, blowing them up will stop them," the Secretary said.
Rubio also indicated that the President intends to take a more aggressive stance against drug trafficking organizations, declaring that the "President will wage war on narco terrorist organizations."
The Secretary of State further warned that "groups using maritime routes will not be able to continue to act with impunity," signaling a shift in U.S. strategy toward combating drug trafficking at sea.
This statement comes one day after a U.S. strike of a vessel suspected of drug trafficking in Caribbean waters.
