Restaurant Brands beats Q2 profit expectations on Burger King strength

Investing.com -- Restaurant Brands International Inc. (NYSE: QSR) reported second-quarter earnings before the open on Thursday, topping earnings expectations.
Adjusted earnings per share came in at $1.07, exceeding the analyst estimate of $1.04, while revenue of $2.52 billion matched consensus expectations.
The company's comparable sales accelerated to 3.8% in the quarter, up from 2.4% in the prior-year period, driven by an 8.5% increase at Burger King US and 5.5% growth at International. System-wide sales grew 6.4% YoY, including 10.7% growth in International markets. Revenue increased 4.6% from $2.41 billion in the second quarter of 2025. Shares fell 0.3% following the results.
"We built on our strong start to 2026 with another quarter of over 3% global comparable sales and double-digit earnings growth, led by Burger King's standout performance and continued strength at International," said Josh Kobza, Chief Executive Officer of Restaurant Brands International.
The company's adjusted operating income rose to $715 million from $668 million in the year-ago quarter, representing 6.7% organic growth. Burger King's adjusted operating income increased to $137 million from $121 million, while International segment adjusted operating income grew to $194 million from $172 million.
Tim Hortons posted modest comparable sales growth of 0.1%, while Popeyes experienced a 5.1% decline in comparable sales. The company's system restaurant count reached 33,156 locations, up 2.9% from the prior year.
Restaurant Brands International declared a third-quarter dividend of $0.65 per share, payable October 2, 2026.
The company maintained its 2026 financial guidance, including segment general and administrative expenses of $600 million to $620 million and total capital expenditures of around $400 million. RBI reiterated its long-term target of 8% organic adjusted operating income growth through 2028.
