Investing.com -- Russian President Vladimir Putin said today that President Donald Trump asked Russia to make compromises for a Ukraine peace agreement and Russia is prepared to do so if Ukraine also compromises.

Speaking to reporters in St Petersburg on Thursday, Putin reiterated his view that Russia has all the resources needed to achieve its military objectives but noted that he is prepared to reach a peaceful agreement with Ukraine.

Putin said Trump made the request for compromises during discussions in Alaska. The Russian president said the conflict will end quickly if both sides are willing to make concessions.

Putin said Russia fully controls the Luhansk region, more than 85% of the Donetsk region, and 80% of the Zaporizhzhia region. Putin stated Russia can control Donbas and still reach a peace deal.

The Russian president described Ukraine's military situation as facing a catastrophic lack of personnel. He said Ukraine is losing territories and lacks cruise missiles and other weapons that Russia possesses.

Putin acknowledged that some Ukrainian drones are reaching Russian territory and said Russia needs to strengthen its air defense system. He stated Russia's abilities to fulfill military goals are getting stronger.
