Putin dismisses impact of new U.S. sanctions on Russian economy

Investing.com -- Russian President Vladimir Putin stated Thursday that new U.S. sanctions would not affect the Russian economy, describing them as "an attempt to put pressure on Russia," according to state news agency RIA.

Putin emphasized that "no self-respecting country ever does anything under pressure," RIA reported.

The Russian leader called the sanctions "an unfriendly act that does not strengthen Russian-American relations," according to TASS news agency.

In his remarks, Putin highlighted Russia’s position in global energy markets, noting that "Russia and Saudi Arabia sell more oil than they consume, unlike the United States."

He also stressed that "Russia’s contribution to the global energy balance is very significant," and added that "replacing Russian oil on the global market will take time," RIA reported.
