Putin and Trump hold phone call lasting over 90 minutes

Investing.com -- President of Russia Vladimir Putin and U.S. President Trump held a phone call on Wednesday, according to Kremlin aide Yuri Ushakov. The conversation lasted over 1.5 hours and was described as friendly and businesslike.

During the call, Putin condemned the attempted assassination on Trump, Ushakov said.

The two leaders discussed Iran, with Putin proposing ideas on the country's nuclear program. Putin voiced backing for Trump's decision to extend the Iran ceasefire, according to the Kremlin aide.

On Ukraine, Trump believes a deal to settle the conflict is close, Ushakov said following the call. Putin proposed a Ukraine ceasefire during May Victory Day celebrations, and Trump reacted positively to the proposal, the aide added. Putin told Trump that Ukraine is resorting to "terrorist methods," Ushakov said.

The leaders also discussed potential economic and energy projects, according to the Kremlin aide.
