Investing.com -- OpenAI announced plans to acquire Promptfoo, an AI security platform that helps enterprises identify and fix vulnerabilities in AI systems during development. The company said it will integrate Promptfoo's technology into OpenAI Frontier, its platform for building and operating AI coworkers, once the acquisition is finalized.

Promptfoo's tools are currently used by over 25 percent of Fortune 500 companies. The platform includes an open-source command-line interface and library for evaluating and red-teaming large language model applications. OpenAI said it will continue developing the open-source project alongside the enterprise capabilities within Frontier.

The Promptfoo team is led by Ian Webster and Michael D'Angelo. According to Srinivas Narayanan, CTO of B2B Applications at OpenAI, Promptfoo brings engineering expertise in evaluating, securing, and testing AI systems at enterprise scale.

OpenAI outlined several capabilities it plans to build for enterprises using Frontier. The company will add automated security testing and red-teaming features directly into the platform to help identify risks including prompt injections, jailbreaks, data leaks, tool misuse, and out-of-policy agent behaviors. Security and evaluation tools will be integrated into development workflows, and the platform will include reporting and traceability features to support governance, risk, and compliance requirements.

Ian Webster, co-founder and CEO of Promptfoo, said the company was founded to give developers a practical way to secure AI systems. Webster said joining OpenAI will allow the team to accelerate its work on security, safety, and governance capabilities for teams building AI systems
