OpenAI launches Dots AI agents powered by GPT-6 Astra

Investing.com -- OpenAI announced Tuesday the launch of Dots, AI agents designed to handle tasks and work independently on behalf of users around the clock. The agents are powered by GPT-6 Astra and operate on their own cloud computers.

Dots can connect to more than 4,000 apps through OpenAI's plugin ecosystem. Users can interact with their Dot through ChatGPT, Slack, or Teams via messaging or voice calls. The agents learn user preferences and working styles over time through feedback.

The AI agents can perform tasks such as investigating bugs, converting designs into working applications, preparing invoices, and managing project workflows. Each Dot operates on its own cloud computer with a dedicated browser and can access apps that users connect to the system.

OpenAI rolled out Dots to Pro, Business Premium, and Enterprise plan subscribers in select markets. Enterprise users require workspace administrator approval to access the feature. The company plans to expand availability to additional users in the future.

Each subscription includes one Dot at no additional cost, with an allowance for extended work during the first month. Users will be able to purchase additional Dots and increase their work capacity in the future.

The company introduced specialist Dots for organizations, which operate with their own identity and credentials to handle specific company responsibilities. OpenAI is conducting focused enterprise pilots for these specialist agents and is working with Microsoft to integrate them into Agent 365.

Dots include security measures such as restricted read-only access for background tasks and monitoring systems that can pause work if safety concerns arise. Users maintain control over which apps the agents can access and can set custom rules for when Dots should act independently or request approval.

OpenAI stated that content from Business, Enterprise, and Edu workspaces is not used to improve its models by default. Personal plan users can control whether their Dot conversations are used for model improvement.
