OpenAI launches Admin plugin for ChatGPT Work and Codex
Investing.com -- OpenAI released an Admin plugin for ChatGPT Work and Codex on Tuesday, allowing workspace administrators to analyze information, update settings, and process requests within a single conversation.
The plugin enables admins to complete tasks without writing complex prompts or switching between different tools. Administrators can ask questions, review details, make authorized changes, and confirm results in one workflow.
The Admin plugin allows administrators to review activity and credit usage across ChatGPT Work and Codex, add or remove members, update groups, and manage access permissions. Admins can also adjust usage limits for members, groups, and workspaces, and approve or deny spending requests.
The plugin supports automation of recurring administrative tasks without custom engineering. It can route pending usage requests to Slack or Microsoft Teams, where authorized reviewers can approve or deny them. The system can automatically grant access to feature requests that meet predefined criteria while routing exceptions for manual review.
The plugin operates within each user's existing role and permissions and does not grant broader access. It maps administrator instructions to appropriate read or write actions and returns structured results. Admins can review actions with broader impact before they are applied.
OpenAI's IT team uses the Admin plugin to drill into data and generate reports. Kunal Malik, Head of Global IT at OpenAI, said the plugin connects questions to supported actions such as checking permissions, updating groups, changing usage limits, or reviewing spending requests.
OpenAI's IT team uses a ChatGPT Work agent in Slack to handle employee IT requests, triage support tickets, retrieve context, check policies, and complete tasks. At the time of reporting, deployed workflows resolved about 45% of ticket volume.
The plugin is available in ChatGPT workspace settings and can be installed from the Plugins directory in ChatGPT Work on web or desktop applications.
