OpenAI expands ChatGPT ads to 26 more countries

October 21, 2026 9:18 AM EDT

Investing.com -- OpenAI announced Wednesday it is expanding advertising on ChatGPT to 26 additional countries, increasing its total reach to 89 markets as the artificial intelligence company grows its advertising operations to increase revenue before a possible initial public offering.

The company reported in August that its advertising business reached an annualized revenue run rate of $1 billion.

OpenAI started testing advertisements in ChatGPT in the United States earlier this year. More than 100,000 advertisers have run campaigns on the platform since then, according to the company.

The expansion includes 14 additional Latin American countries, such as Argentina, Chile, Colombia and Peru, after previous launches in Mexico and Brazil.

Advertisements are also rolling out in markets across Europe, the Middle East, Africa and Asia, including Nigeria, South Africa, Serbia, Ukraine, Cambodia, Bangladesh and Pakistan.

Advertisers can access ChatGPT ads in the new markets through technology partners or through self-service access via Ads Manager on the company's platform.

Advertisements will appear only on ChatGPT's Free and Go plans. Plus, Pro and Enterprise subscriptions will remain ad-free.

In September, OpenAI introduced AI-powered tools for advertisers and started testing business-sponsored agents with select US advertisers.
