Investing.com-- OpenAI on Sunday evening denied rumors that the company had at the last minute pulled plans to broadcast an advertisement featuring an upcoming artificial intelligence device during the Super Bowl event.

OpenAI president Greg Brockman commented “fake news” on an X post covering the rumor, which originated from a now-deleted Reddit thread.

The Reddit poster had claimed to be a frustrated OpenAI employee who was posting about the startup deciding to not run with an advertisement featuring actor Alexander Skarsgard and the company’s upcoming AI device.

They had also “leaked” a video of the supposed advertisement, which shows Skarsgard interacting with a metallic, circular device the video called “dime.”

OpenAI head of communications Lindsay McCallum Remy also called the video “totally fake.”

OpenAI did broadcast an ad during the Super Bowl, featuring its Codex AI coding agent.

The company is developing an AI device with former Apple Inc (NASDAQ: AAPL) designer Jony Ive, and has planned a 2026-2027 release.
