Nvidia’s Huang says cybersecurity will be next major AI use case
Investing.com -- Nvidia Corp. co-founder and Chief Executive Officer Jensen Huang said cybersecurity will be the next major use case for artificial intelligence during remarks at the Goldman Sachs Group Inc. technology conference in San Francisco on Thursday.
Huang told the audience that advances in AI technology are set to disrupt the cybersecurity industry, which focuses on defending computer systems. He explained that AI automation of computer programming is affecting the cybersecurity sector due to the speed at which code can be exploited and requires fixing.\
"What better way to create demand than to create a problem," Huang said. "Who doesn't want their market to be hysterical about their product and line up around the corner for it? And so there are responsible ways of doing it and there's less attractive ways of doing it."
The CEO spoke to investors after Nvidia delivered a long-term forecast last month that strengthened Wall Street's view that spending on AI data centers will continue. The computing industry faces ongoing questions about the economic benefits generated by capital expenditures in AI infrastructure.
Last week, Nvidia announced plans to acquire startup Hugging Face Inc. for approximately $13 billion, expanding the chipmaker's presence in additional areas of the AI business. The company's frequent deal making has raised concerns about potential market distortions in the new technology sector.
Huang addressed concerns that some deals might be circular in nature, highlighting his company's ability to identify fundamental customer demand. "It's not circular because we put a little bit of money in and a lot of money comes back," he said. "People are starting to recognize that wherever I invest, it's not a bad place to invest because I'm an informed investor. I'm not taking any risks."
Huang stated he requires a "sure thing" before committing company funds, noting that potential investment targets must already have customers lined up.
