Magnitude 7.4 earthquake hits Mexico's Chiapas coast

Investing.com -- A magnitude 7.4 earthquake struck near the coast of Mexico's southern Chiapas state on Friday, prompting authorities to issue a tsunami warning for the region.

The earthquake occurred near the Mexican city of Puerto Madero at a shallow depth of 10 kilometers, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

The U.S. Tsunami Warning System issued a tsunami threat for the region following the tremor.

Buildings shook in Guatemala City, and the earthquake was also felt in El Salvador.
