Lithuania moves to lift constitutional ban on nuclear weapons
Investing.com -- Lithuania's parliamentary parties reached an agreement on Thursday to eliminate a constitutional provision that currently prohibits nuclear weapons on Lithuanian territory, President Gitanas Nauseda announced.
Nauseda stated that the constitution was written under different geopolitical circumstances, noting that the current security environment has deteriorated since that time.
The president clarified that Lithuania does not have immediate plans to store nuclear weapons within its borders. The proposed constitutional change aims to prevent future constraints if the country's security situation requires different measures.
The removal of this provision would require parliamentary approval to amend the constitution.
