Gold should be 10-15% of portfolio, says Ray Dalio
Investing.com -- Ray Dalio, founder and former CEO of Bridgewater Associates, recommends investors allocate 10-15% of their portfolios to gold as protection against unhealthy markets burdened with debt.
"A well diversified portfolio would have somewhere between 10 and 15% in the portfolio of gold," said Dalio, who sold his remaining stake in Bridgewater Associates and stepped away from the hedge fund he founded in July.
Dalio warned that increasing U.S. debt servicing costs "squeezes out other spending" and accumulates like plaque in a clogged circulatory system. "A doctor would warn of a heart attack," he added.
Speaking at a launch event for Abu Dhabi Finance Week, scheduled for December, Dalio highlighted gold’s tendency to be uncorrelated with other assets, noting that its value often rises during crises when other assets tend to drop.
